Hi! I'm in the market for a Launch unit but I'm getting a bit confused about all the different units. I've narrowed it down that the Super Scanner, Diagun, Top and Tool are what I may need. I'm looking for Bi-directional capability and CAN communicative protocols. It doesn't look like the other units are capable of what I mentioned above.

As I'm not a garage owner or pro mechanic, the Super Scanner, Top and Tool look to be rather overkill. You see, I'm everyone's "Go to" guy. Need something built, welded, plumbed, installed or fixed, I'm the sucker, I mean, guy they call.

A combination of price and functionality is what brought my attention to Launch. I looked at OTC, Snap-On, X-Ray, Actron (Had an Actron, usless for Bi-D or CAN), and various computer connected softwares. I almost bought a particular software package (autoenginuity) because its updates were rather cheap. But info on it was nil and slim. No forum to ask questions or browse either.

Now, the Diagun: its compact, upgradeable and from what I've seen, ranges from $1500 to $2000 USD; but, it looks like it comes in only two flavors: Japanese or Euro. Is this true? How much are the upgrades, cables, connectors, etc? Are subject to the $995 yearly upgrade price? Is there an online dealer? I don't want a blackmarket unit due to the lack of support.

Any help would be great. Thanks.

Best thing to do is contact a local authorized distributor. The diagun can be ordered with euro or asian or complete with euro, asian and domestic. If you purchase it with just euro or asian, you will need to order the diagun connector kit separately if you want OBDI connectors (mercedes 38 pin, BMW 20 pin, etc.). The diagun complete package comes with all the OBDI connectors included. If you purchase just euro or asian, you can add additional vehicle makes individually.

Keep in mind that the capabilities of the vehicle coverage software is identical for all models; super scanner, tool, master and diagun. The differences will be size, speed, built-in printer and wireless/non-wireless. During the first calendar year of purchase, any updates made available are free. Afterwards, you may purchase an additional year of software updates at any time. There is no penalty for waiting and regardless of when you purchase an additional year, you will be caught up immediately and still have 1 calendar year of updates for free.

Contact a local dealer for pricing. If you are in Southern California, PM me for dealer information.

Hi Coyote. I'm in MA.

Thanks Eric! That helps tremendously! I'm thinking on opting for the Tool instead of the Diagun. It seems to be the "End all, Be all" of scan tools. Was going back and forth between the Diagun and the Hanatech Ultrascan PRO. Then Back and forth between the Ultrascan PRO and the Tool. Unless someone tells me otherwise, the Tool wins!

I like the fact that their updates don't have to be continuous. That was really bothering me about not just the Tool but all the other scanners out there. I'm sure that Snap On and Pegisys have to have continuous updates in order to qualify for additional updates. If you skip a year, your stuck. I think they double up on the price of the updates if that happens. Quite refreshing on Launch's part for the ability to skip a year!

There was a map online to search out Authorized Launch US dealers. I can't seem to find it. There is a dealer that I've communicated to but I want to make sure they're authorized prior to my purchase. Anyone have a link?

Thanks again!
