Subject: 2008 toyota corolla tire pressure monitor transmitter registration EDITED Fri Nov 27, 2009 1:35 pm
EDIT FROM ORIGINAL POST productiion date 11-07 vin 2T1BR30E08C931580 i have a 2008 corolla that has had one valve stem transmitter replaced due to an accident ...is there a procedure in launch scan tool to perform the folowing procedure that i copied from alldata ?
i was able to access the tpms data list ,clear and check codes and there is a screen called "perform work"..and then on the next screen "id registration ".....i assume i should pull up the key bord and type in the id number .
.but how do i know which tire's sensor i'm inputting for registration? .......i haven't tried yet as i don't have the sensor's id because it wasn't recorded before the tire was mounted ........
.i'd like to know the procedure and also know if the tool has the capabilites before i get the car back in the shop.......thanks paul
below procedure copied from alldata ....
REGISTRATION
DESCRIPTION OF CODE REGISTRATION It is necessary to register the transmitter IDs in the tire pressure warning ECU when replacing a tire pressure warning valve and transmitter and/or tire pressure warning ECU. Prepare all transmitter ID data before starting registration.
(a) Before registration (1) When replacing the tire pressure warning ECU:
Read the registered transmitter IDs that are stored in the old ECU using Techstream and note them down. If reading stored transmitter IDs is impossible due to malfunctions of components such as the tire pressure warning antenna and receiver, remove the tires from the wheels and check the IDs located on the tire pressure warning valve and transmitters (See: Service Precautions). (2) When replacing a tire pressure warning valve and transmitter:
Take note of the 7-digit number (transmitter ID) written on the tire pressure warning valve and transmitter.
NOTE: The transmitter ID is written on the tire pressure warning valve and transmitter. It will be unable to be read after installing the tire onto the wheel. Therefore, take note of the transmitter ID before installing the tire onto the wheel.
REGISTER TRANSMITTER ID (USING TECHSTREAM) (a) Set the air pressure of all tires to the specified value (See: Service Precautions). (b) Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position. (c) Connect Techstream to the DLC3. (d) Turn the ignition switch to the ON position and turn the tester on. (e) Enter the menu items in this order: Chassis / Tire Pressure Monitor / Utility / ID Registration. (f) Perform the following procedures displayed on the screen. (g) Confirmation of transmitter ID registration. (1) Enter the menu items in this order: Chassis / Tire Pressure Monitor / Data List. (2) Read the "ID Tire Inflation Pressure" values. (3) Confirm that the data of tire pressure of all tires are displayed on the screen.
NOTICE:
It takes about 2 or 3 minutes to display the updated tire pressure data. If the values are not displayed after a few minutes, perform troubleshooting according to the inspection procedure for DTCs C2121/21 to C2124/24 (See: Powertrain Management\Computers and Control Systems\Testing and Inspection\Diagnostic Trouble Code Tests and Associated Procedures\Manufacturer Code Charts\DTC 21\Tire Pressure Monitoring). If the IDs have not been registered, DTC C2171/71 is set in the tire pressure warning ECU after 3 minutes or more. If normal pressure values are displayed, the IDs have been registered correctly. If the tire pressure values are not displayed after several minutes, the IDs may be incorrect or the system may have a malfunction. (h) Confirm that the tire pressure warning light is off.
NOTE: After all IDs are registered, DTC C2126/26 (Transmitter ID not Received in Main Mode) is set in the tire pressure warning ECU and the tire pressure warning light blinks for 1 minute and then comes on. When the tire pressure warning ECU successfully receives radio waves from all the transmitters whose IDs are stored in the ECU, DTC C2126/26 is deleted and the tire pressure warning light goes off.

I cannot garuntee the Launch can perform the ID Registration, but having been through this before, I know that you MUST get the number off the new sensor!

thanks ..the screen is there for id registration..but im unsure of what exactly to do with the id number from the sensor once the body shop breaks down the tire.......i'll update when i get the result..paul

I would imagine that you just input the ID number into the launch. If it gives you the option to input something, then I'm sure it will do it! Please let us know! Its always good to here what features can be used from other techs!

the customer had to take the car to the dealer becuse he coudn't wait for me ....from what he told me the dealer tech was able to initilaize the pressre snsor by using the factory scan tool plugged into the obd2 port ...he did not read numbers from a scan tool that read numbers at the unintialized wheel ......and he did not dismount the tire from wheel to read sensor's number
i am getting the old wheel /tire with sensor still intact ...so i will be able to remove the sensor and at least be able to see if the car was showing the launch tool the old sensor info from the car or the new sensor that was installed ...
maybe the launch enginneers can give us a procedure when a new tire pressure sensor is installed in a vehicle and the tpms lite is illluminated..

I had a 2007 Tacoma that needed a sensor some time ago. I have a friend that works at a Toyota dealer and I had to write the number down and then there was some long drawn out procedure to update the system with it. Perhaps thats the difference between trucks and cars, or 2007 vs 2008?

i just found a tsb for loss of communication between scan tool and tpms module .......not the case that i have but it instructs the technician to jumper two terminals in the dlc i hope we can get some input from launch

Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) Tire Registration "Lost Communication With ECU"
Service Category Suspension
Section Tire Pressure Monitoring
Market USA
Applicability
Introduction
The purpose of this bulletin is to provide procedures on Tire Pressure Monitoring System sensor registration when Lost Communication With ECU appears on the Techstream display.
This condition may occur when trying to register one or more sensors. Follow the procedures in this bulletin to properly register TPMS sensors.
Warranty Information
Repair Procedure
1. Connect TIS Techstream to the vehicle
2. Turn the ignition switch to the "IG-ON" position.
3. Select the datalist for the Tire Pressure Monitoring System.
4. Check and set all tire pressures to specification with an accurate tire pressure gauge and compare the information to what is displayed on the datalist.
5. After checking the tire pressure, record the TPMS sensors ID numbers.
6. With the vehicle set to "IG-ON" mode, disconnect the TIS Techstream.
7. Using Jumper wire or equivalent, connect terminals TC and CG at the DL3 connector for at least 30 seconds. Do not cycle the ignition switch to "OFF" position during this step. (Landcruiser use TC and El at DLCl)
8. Once 30 seconds have passed with the vehicle still in "IG-ON" mode, remove the jumper wire.
9. Connect TIS Techstream and begin the registration process.
If "Lost Communication With ECU" appears during the registration process, then terminals TC and CG were not connected properly or the key was cycled during this process.
10. After registration has been performed, leave TIS Techstream connected and confirm that the tire pressures are reading correctly and the thresold pressures show a difference of 5 to 7psi less than the inflation pressure. For vehicles with a TPMS reset switch, press and hold the reset switch to begin the initialization process.
11. After tire pressures and thresholds pressures display on the datalist, adjust all tire pressures in relation to the expected changes in ambient temperatures.
NOTE Please refer to TSB T-SB-0345-08 for tire inflation pressure compensation and adjustment procedures.

i removed the original tire pressure sensor from the damaged tire wheel assmbly ....it had the same id number that showed on the launch tool when the car actually had another sensor installed with a different unknown id number ........(.the original sensor id was stored in the vehicle ecu )
..so the question is ...how do we register a new sensor id to the vehicle ecu?....what's the procedure when using the launch tool?...paul
