Problem with service reset on 1997 - E38 (7 series)

Using a diagun and the 20 pin connector.  I tried version 38.80/38.00/36.00 and nothing worked.  The 2 options within instrument cluster are service reset and oil reset.  Both come back with 'unknown service function'.

Tech support, any ideas?
