For that era car or older, if the latest version is giving you bunk info, won't communicate or is missing bi-directional; go back to version 36.00. Actually, I use that rule for any 2002 or older Benz.

Any one else having trouble reading fault codes in the climate control on the E320 series using the 38 pin connector?
I can read the module version, clear codes,(blindly) look at current values but I get a communication error if I try to read fault codes.
Thanks, Rick
Actually, I believe the tool is operating correctly. I believe the automatic HVAC system on that model Benz actually allow you to read the codes on the dash rather than the scanner.
1. Ignition On
2. Set left temp display to HI and right temp display to LO
3. Within 20 seconds, press REST and EC buttons for at least 5 seconds
4. LED in the recirc button will flash and the display will read "di A"
5. Press AUTO repeatedly until all DTCs are displayed. Record all DTCs
6. Press AUTO to display each code
7. Display will show E (for error) on left-side and DTC on right side
Hope that helps!

Thanks, I'll do that. I knew I use to be able to do it. I really didn't want to go back to the "push this/push that" for diagnosing after buying a tool that is suppose to do it! :)
OK, I went online to download the older version that was listed, but it will only allow the latest version to be downloaded. If you click on any other version, other than the very latest, the language version window minimizes and will not allow you download it. I upgraded scanners a few months ago and do not have the 36.0 version for my X431 Tool (Blue Tooth). Are the older versions archived somewhere that allows downloading??

Sounds like you're using Mozilla Firefox? I love that browser for everything but downloading Launch software. Use Internet Explorer and the pull-down menus will work fine.
While you are at it, I would also download version 30.00 for the real ancient Benz's.

Yep...Firefox but I think I tried with IE also.
We have been with out power for several days due to the severe weather. I'll try again with IE tomorrow to be sure.

Thanks Eric...You were right. Went back in with IE and all went well.
