TRANSMITTER PROGRAMMING IMPORTANT: Up to 4 transmitters can be programmed. Do not operate or program the transmitters in the vicinity of other vehicles that are in the keyless entry program mode. This prevents the programming of the transmitters to the incorrect vehicle. The order in which the transmitters are programmed is important. The first transmitter programmed will be transmitter # 1, and the second transmitter programmed will be transmitter # 2. Use care to program the transmitters correctly. WITH SCAN TOOL Install a scan tool. Turn ON the ignition with the engine OFF. In order to add or replace a transmitter, use the scan tool Body Control Module Special Functions: Add/Replace Key FOB in order to place the body control module into program mode. In order to program all of the transmitters, use the scan tool Body Control Module Special Functions: Clear Memory/Program All FOB's in order to place the body control module into program mode. The BCM will confirm entry into the program mode by sounding the chime twice. IMPORTANT: The scan tool must stay connected until all of the transmitters are programmed. Press and hold the LOCK and the UNLOCK buttons simultaneously on one transmitter for approximately 12 seconds . The BCM will confirm the programming of that transmitter by sounding the chime twice. If you are programming all of the transmitters, repeat the previous step to program up to four transmitters. If you would like to add another transmitter, return to step 3. Remove the scan tool. Exit the vehicle. Attempt to lock/unlock the doors to verify the programming. Operate the transmitter functions in order to verify correct system operation. WITHOUT SCAN TOOL The OEM service manual does not provide a procedure to program transmitter without a scan tool

  • Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) - Transmitter - Resynchronization

    • Resynchronization may be necessary due to the security method used by the remote keyless entry system. The transmitter does not send the same signal twice to the remote controldoor lock receiver (RCDLR).
    • The RCDLR will not respond to a signal that has been sent previously. This prevents anyone from recording and playing back the signal from the transmitter.
    • Resynchronization may be necessary under the following conditions:
    • The battery in the transmitter is very weak.
    • The battery in the transmitter was replaced.
    • The battery in the vehicle has been in a low or no charge condition for an extended period of time.
    • In order to resynchronize the transmitter with the RCDLR, perform the following steps:
    1. Stand within 1.5 meters (5 ft)from the vehicle.
    2. Simultaneously press and hold the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons on the transmitter for 7 seconds . The horn should chirp in order to confirm synchronization

Launch supports communication with the GM BCM modules on select models starting in 1997 with version 40.40 of their software. Coverage differs from model to model and from year to year. The GM BCM coverage does not apper to extend past reading and clearing codes and setup. Immobliser coverage stops at 2006. Radio communication appers to start in 1998. All of this information is availble in vehicle coverage on their www.x431.com website. http://www.x431.com/service/testListAction.do?method=showVehicle

X431 web page refers Pontiac as a covered brand, been trying madly with a gran am and also a gran prnix with no results. Is there any dedicated software to be purchased? GM is very limited also, however there is somne model coverage but not Pontiac as I can see....

If its Pontiac you have issues with, try a more popular Chevy model:

1997-2003 Grand Am = Chevy Malibu

Pontiac Grand Prix = Chevrolet Monte Carlo

^ This is your best bet.  Every maunfacturer is different when it comes to "building" the vehicle in a scan tool.  Some vehicles are basically the same and so they don't bother to list both vehicles.  Your shop refrences and the internet are wonderful sourses for this kind of information
