scanning a 93 Probe GT

got a 93 Probe GT 2.5L engine with a CEL. the connector labeled "Mazda -17" doesn't fit onto the diagnostic connector under the hood, but the one label "Toyota - 17" does. is it safe to use the toyota connector instead?

car came back today. won't pass emission test with CEL on.  if you try to enter the vehicle in as a Ford, it tell you to use the 6+1 connector, no other option. all the info I have said there is no 6+1 connector. I got the Mazda connector to fit (very tight squeeze) and the display stops at the "please wait..." screen when I try to read codes. give up after waiting for 5 mins. funny thing is that the CEL starts flashing codes with the connector hooked up.

**my snap on scanner said to use the Mazda conector and reads codes without any problems hmm

Looks like it only has the 17 pin connector.

Software on older domestics, pre-2003, is definitely the achilles heel for Launch.
