Subject: I/M Readiness Error? Thu Nov 19, 2009 11:04 pm
Here's a strange one I got from a friend who works at trade school. They have a ET97/CReader V hooked up to a 2003 Nissan Maxima, the ET97 indicates that the I/M monitors are all complete, but when they hook it up to the smog machine, it fails the O2 monitor. I told them to update and get back to me, I figured I would throw this out for any of you smog techs out there.
On the CReader V I/M Readiness list, the first type information you see listed is support of continuous monitors, shown as "EVAL: ", which all three are always "SUPPORTED" (Misfire, Fuel System, and Comprehensive).
The next information is the status of the three continuous monitors, shown as "CONT: ", which should read "COMPLETE OR N/A"
The next information down the list is for non-continuous monitor support "SUPP: " which indicates whether each monitor is supported or unsupported by the vehicle's on board system.
Last on the list is the status "STAT: ", displayed for each non-continuous monitor bit (COMPLETE or INCOMPLETE).
One problem I see often with CReader V is it will show:
SUPP: Catalyst INCOMPLETE
...then scroll down and see
STAT: Catalyst COMPLETE OR N/A
(SUPP: Catalyst should show "SUPPORTED", not "INCOMPLETE")
It would be more intuituve to me to just list all the OBDII Monitors, then either show N/A, INCOMPLETE, or COMPLETE. next to each monitor. This is how most other scan tools and code readers do it.
I was initially confused/misled using the CReader V to check monitor status when I first started using the tool.
