Question about Misfire Datastream
Permalink

Hi

I recently purchased a 6830 book and so far so good. Only question I have is with data stream. I can't figure out from the menu interface how to read live misfire data.

I tryed on 2 cars that came to my shop a 98 ford contour with a misfire and my own 98 GMC safari - that doesn;t have a misfire.

BTW the 6830 read that the Ford had a misfire - but would not let me read the live data. Misfire was supported on the protocol serach.

Do i need to install a software update?

Thanks
Marcel

Nothing from mods or support team?

How disapointing.

I answered the question in the other forum also. Misfire data does not exist in OBDII generic. This is the new forum and many members have not made the move yet.

Typically LAUNCH tools give misfire data via P-codes ex: P0300 random misfire, ie: P0301 misfire in cylinder 1, etc.

The question was about live misfire data not codes.

So Which of Launches tools will read Live misfire Data?

I'm actually a Licenced Auto service Tech in Canada; the shop I work at has the Complete OTC genisys system (with lab scope and gas analyzer)

I don;t need that level of technology at home (I fix auction cars for resale) But complete live data is a must and ABS would be a bonus as well.

I talked to the MAC dealer I bought the 6180 from and he might consider a trade-up or I might have to stretch my credit a little bit.

I think you may need the autobook.

Mabey someone else will add their input. The diff between the tool and autobook is the autobook does not give you by lateral controls or the coding ability.

Hi Marcel,
After reviewing various advertisements and testing a 6830 myself, I did not see anywhere where it was mentioned that live misfire data is supported.
It seems that the misfire monitors are displayed, and if they are bad enough, will trigger a P code.
Hope that helps!

Hello,

On that 98 Contour, you will most likely not have any live misfire data, as with most Ford products.

Use Mode $06, Test $50 (total misfire), and

Test $53 (cylinder specific misfire) will have CID's showing misfire results for each cylinder.

Test $53 will help pinpoint a specific cylinder on a Ford, but it is not live data.

Your GM may have live misfire data on OEM side, they do on the LS series engines.
