How-to: BMW 2002+ Condition Based Service (CBS) Reset/CBS Correction Mode
Permalink

Hi all,

I found some extra time on my hands and decided to do a little write up for everyone who has a X431 and deals with BMW's CBS resets. I will also include a quick blurb on the CBS correction mode which the X431 also has, handy for fixing "other" shops mistakes when they don't know how or can't correct the CBS intervals.

Step 1 - This is what you will see when a service is due.  Red is due immediately, yellow means service will be due soon:

Step 2 - Fire up the X431 and select the BMW software:

Step 3 - Identify the BMW 'series' that you are working on.  Usually on the trunk lid as an emblem:

Step 4 - Now select CODING/PROGRAM :

Step 5 - Now select MAINTENANCE :

Step 6 - This is the CBS reset menu in X431, & these are all of the options you can choose from and reset the service time on:

Step 7 - In our example, we are trying to reset the ENGINE OIL interval, after selecting the option, this screen pops up next asking if you want to reset it:

Step 8 - When completed you will get this message on your X431:

Step 9 - Now cycle your iDrive back through the CBS menu on the dash, and you should see the interval change from the red to this:

CBS CORRECTION

This function is handy if the previous shop never could reset the light, or if you accidently reset a CBS monitor.  The CBS correction mode allows you reset the interval to whatever you would like.

Step 1 - After selecting the MAINTENANCE you will get this menu, select CBS CORRECT:

Step 2 - This is the CBS reset menu, but the CBS Correct will give you the same list of options to choose from:

Step 3 - After choosing your menu item, the next screen will look like this:

Step 4 - This is the adjustment for the % of life left:

Step 5 - This is the amount of times this line item has been serviced:

Step 6 - All done!

I hope these tips help at least one of you out there!

There are other things that this feature is good for. Let's say you have a customer that is always late for service by a couple of thousand miles. Correct the data base accordingly and when they arrive late they will be right on time
