does it make sense that i would only have to match the vin if the vehicle has a factory  security system ? ...SKREEM   in chrysler terms ..paul

With the launch, we can't even put a PCM in the car.  I used my CarDAQ+ to program a few PCMs from the TechAuthority website, but you STILL need to put the VIN in after programming AND set the pinion factor, neither of wich can be done with the Launch.  I had to use my Snap-on scanner to do such.

Paul, I don't think it is a problem until 2002 models.

the info i received from research on iatn is that the skim(immobilzer ) is the issue that causes  headaches

.if the donor car has skim  and the  broken car doesn't  ..the broken car 's ecm will look  for the skim in the donor car's bcm and lock up the good ecm of the broken car forever .....then   you will need a new ecm and  a new bcm to match  the ecm

...the  rebuilt bcm for this 2000 car is dealer only and was  priced  more than i paid for the car itself

thanks paul
