I need to find some earlier versions of Volvo software. I am using V.39 and have heard of some issues. I have tried V33 and V35 on earleir cars (1997,1998) and seem to have an issue where the scanner can't see the ECM. When I bypass this message I get a screen that shows a bunch of number options. I don't really know what I am slooking at. As I select and go to the next screen, the same thing. After 3-4 screens I finally get to a screen that looks like a normal screen. Then I select read Codes. Any idea what I am seeing? Also where can I get some earlier versions? If need be I can take a photo of what I am seeing and post that.
Version 35.10 is a good one to keep on your scan tool as a backup to the latest offering.
The issue you're facing is engine identification and the fact that Launch cannot automatically find the proper engine type on some/most models. This issue will not change depending on the version of Volvo software you're using. The message that pops up is, ' no find fitted electrical.....etc.'. You need to manually access/choose the engine type.
There are 2 ways of figuring out the engine type. One way is to get that engine type id off of the sticker that is placed just under the hood in the back of the engine compartment. The other way is via the scan tool. After you make your model selection, the next screen will list all of the available model years. The top selection shoud be 'vin'. By selecting vin, the engine type/id will appear. You need to write that number down and then make the appropriate selection when prompted to.
One thing that I haven't figured out yet is how to accurately find 'part number'. After you make your engine type/id selection the scan tool will ask you to choose a 'part number'. On my 2004 1/2 S40 there are a few choices. I never seem to get different data/trouble codes depending upon which one I choose but it would be nice to have a fail safe way to determine the correct part number. Can anyone help?
To date, the only way I've figured out the correct part number is by using the Autologic to retrieve it.
