I use to be able to update my codetech when I was running Vista, but I recently updated to win7. I've install the drivers and it installs properly, but when I plug it in, the Codetech screens reads "waiting connection". when I launch the update software it said " error: don't query serial device" can anyone help?

Have you tried manually installing the driver? Go to: Device Manager-->Right click on driver (CP210 Bridge Controller)--> Try 2 things: Change the COM port to a lower number (1-4 usually works best) and/or right click and select Update Device Driver and work your way through the set up wizard, selecting the options "I will choose from a driver" or "Select from a list", searching for the drivers software you installed. If your device doesn't immediately respond following the installation, unplug then reconnect and you should notice the PC identify the device is "Ready to use". Have you checked the version currently in your tool?
The latest update (V3.24.000) works for me. didn't have to download the driver with Win7 SP1. D/L the software, install it, click on the icon, then plug in the scanner.
Two things that are not mentioned in the CodeTech web page. (for Win 7 and I assume for WIN 8).
A) Install DRIVER while in ADMINISTRATOR mode, and having ADMINISTRATOR permissions.
B) Install Upgrade Application in x86 Program Files Folder (IT is a 32 bit application), and Have the PC RE-Boot after driver install and Before Upgrade. Make sure all accessory USB Devices are not conencted to the same port as the USB cable to the device being upgraded.
