priming a diesel fuel pump?

2010 Volks Golf TDI 2.0L diesel

replace the fuel filter only to have the car die after about 30 second. did some research online and found that the fuel system needed to be primed after replacing the filter, but can only be done with a scanner. the factory scanner has an option to turn on the fuel pump, but can't find that option on my diagun. am I just blind?doh

Anyway to find out what channel number the fuel pump is under? There is some data on the X431, but you might want to reference the OEM manual for this one.  I would enter that via the launch and see what you can activate.

just to follow up. according to Volkswagon's manual, you need to prime the fuel system after you change the fuel filter, but some searching online on the Volkswagon forums, guys say just keep cranking it until it starts. don't know how good that is for the starter, but it works.

never crank a 2.0 cr tdi dry. it could destroy the hpfp and lead to a very costly repair. the hpfp needs constant lube from the fuel or it will scar the piston and cyl walls in the hpfp.  go to  www.myturbodiesel.com or www.tdiclub.com for pathways in basicfunctions for priming the fuel pump.  do it the same way they tell you to do it with the rosstech vag-com it works just fine.

or

select control modules/  01 Eng electronics/ 04 basic settings/ group channel 35/ and then hit adjust. this will run both the intank (lift) pump and the fender (low pressure/feed) pump at the same time to prime/ fill system after fuel filter change.  do this 3 times or run the pumps at least 2-3 mins  hope this helps
