I have the Launch cReader V and I'm having an issue with using it on my BMW 316i 2001 model. (UK 51 Plate).
I keep getting a Communication Error; after it has tried to communicate using the various different protocols. I know the device works with another a car (Mercedes).
Anyone else had an issue using this on a 2001 BMW or any other BMW for at matter and know how to get the device to work with it?
Thanks for your quick response, the BMW is question does have a OBD connector, and I thought all cars had to compliant with the OBD? Assuming it is not compliant; then what protocol/tool do I need - this question is of course directed at all board members.

hiya this maybe a bit late but I had the same problem before and it looks like it still isn't even fixed using a launch gds in obd trying to access a 2001 bmw e46.
start your eobd reader with ignition off and when it tries to access the car with the iso9141-2 protocol turn the ignition on it should then access the system. I just tried it out using my gds on my brothers e46 2001 318i under obd. when I selected generic obd it ran through all the protocols and failed I then started the said protocol above with ign off then turned the ignition on and hey presto it works.
