How to clear codes?

I did a scan on my 2003 Dodge Dakota and it told me I had a P0442 code which is a small leak in the emission control system.  So I tried to erase the code and it responds with 'DTC has not been erased'.

Any ideas on how to get it to erase the code?  I am running the latest firmware 3.24 and my hardware version is 2.

Any help is much appreciated.

chrysler vehicles  need to have engine off key on to clear codes ..hope this helps
