Is anyone else here dissapointed in their Maximus as I am. I have had this for about 6 months now and it seems like it does not do much more than a basic scanner when it comes to diagnosing cars. I find numerous situtations where it will not comunicate with a system but my Modis will. I had a Suzuki that it would not comunicate with at all, a chrysler town and country that would not comunicate with air bag system, this is just a small example. I do not have the time to call or write launch every time I find a problem with the scanner, plus in the past when I have tried to talk to someone my emails go unaswered. I think their technical support is extremely lacking, just take a look at the forums , no one answers any problems people have. Does anyone else feel this way?

Hi all,

The Maximus is constantly being updated to fix lacking coverage or bugs. Are these issues still occuring?

Thanks,
Brandon

I would like to know when I can view Mode $06 on Ford, Not have major communication issues, be able to have a scroll bar and not having to use pages, have no issues with TPMS, SRS, ABS so on and so forth, as well as an easier to navigate tool.

The updates are coming but from what I'm seeing is updates in the model year and that's about it. The above are major issues and really need to be addressed before adding MY 14 - 15 vehicles.

I enjoy my Maximus, but we as technicians need a more complete tool for everything 96 - 08 because that's the majority of our diagnostics.

Just had a 2007 Hyundai Sonata with a 3.3 engine. Could not communicate with with srs system, hooked up my Modis and it went right in and read codes. Whatever they say is being done with the software they still cannot get basic communication to happen. I am fast approaching my year with this tool and am not satisfifed with it and especially with the lack of support. Now I see they are going to ask close to $1000.00 for another year of updates, when I bought this tool I was told/sold that updates would not be near this price.

I agree.  Not too impressed with the Maximus. At least I'm using a loaner so I'm not commited.  I've only been able to communicate with Ford, and thats been sketchy.  There's no information, or at least not obvious, on the use of the adapters and cables.  When I try to connect to my Subie (98 Legacy Outback) the machine says I need to use the DBSCar diagnostic connector. I don't know what that is. Nothing I have is labeled that. The Plymouth I tried to connect to (also a 98), I figured I'd need the chrysler 16 connecter but the program needed to see the wireless first, then tell me I need the other connecter, and then I tried combos of cables and various bits with no success.  I'm going to talk to my Matco dealer to get the guy who knows this thing to let me know is my problem operator error or a problem with the machine.  I like the idea of this unit that I can use it for other things than just a scan tool. But right now, its failing as a scan tool.

Update from me.  So I talked to my dealer about my issues who then turned me to a launch rep, who got it fixed. Thanks! Got the unit back in a couple days and has been working alot better.  Now I've had a week to play with the Maximus.  However, I won't be purchasing it.  I like the unit, the idea, it just needs more work because my first gen Verus (platform not program version) is better.

Things that need addressing:  Communicating with vehicles can be slow.  Especially Chrysler.  Most of the other vehicles are ok.

The auto read is nice, concidering Chrysler had that for years makes it wierd that those take the longest.  When I have to use manual select can be irritating.  Need to start with year than model.  I had a Suzuki to scan and when I got to engine selection I had something like 6 to choose from.  Granted, it didn't take long to find out, but later looking up oil filters noticed that there was only one engine for the year I had.

All PIDs should be graphable.  Not select the ones you are allowed to only.  Also, auto range the graph.  I was looking at O2 sensors and the range was set, and not changeable that I could find, to 5V.  So it was in bottom fifth.  Not good for detail.

Which now brings up : The data stream is rather slow.  Doesn't seem to matter how many PIDs are selected.

Changing vehicles is a pain.  You have to back all the way out to where it says 'you want to quit?', and that means vehicle not program, and now you can select a new vehicle.   And if your in rather deep, that can take a while. Like, 4 or 5 pages and most of the time it has to think a bit and then you can go back one more.

And lastly: No previous vehicle selection.  I've been told they are aware of this and are beating on the engineers to get it in there.

And these are things noticed on less than a couple of cars scanned and maily older ones (under '06) so it may be better in CAN.  But right now, I think this unit is too young.  Get more field experience and some better programming.

I am sorry I bought this as well. Over priced and loss functions due to updates. My last 2 updates for GM had no auto search function so I can't roll it back. Pats almost never works in ford. Chrysler is a mess and my 1 year subscription is up. Solution from the rep...... If I buy a new subsctiption for half price my gm auto search will work again. Ok Launch I buy a NEW SCAN TOOL every two years and skip that little silly thing. I don't intend to pay to get back what I was had when I purchased this. You can say you update it constantly and I see you did but what was actually working better. Don't make use pay to be beta or alpha testers please.

I have had mine for about 2 years now. It does have some features that traditional scanners do not. What frustrates me to no end it when I think that I can do something because the option is there but then it wont do it. I just called tech support for a 2010 Dodge WIN module programming that it tries to do but won't and got that it is not covered yet. If this tool can not do it then don't put it in there. I am tired of telling my boss that I can do it and can't....... :(
